Character Profile: Initial Ideas

Initial ideas

Chrissy (our main character): A shy teenage girl is pursuing her parents dream to become a ballet dancer for the London's Royal Academy. She is beginning to feel the pressure of her professional dancing lifestyle and the idea of disappointing her family and turns to performance enhancing drugs to cope with the high expectations her parents and coaches have.

As a group we thought carefully about her presentation as a young female character.

  • She is only 17 years old (decided on this age after considering the appropriate target audience which we found out using our questionnaire results)
  • We want the character to be relatable to our audience, this is why we have chosen Chrissy to be aged 17 as we think the audience can relate to that age well. The name Chrissy seems youthful  to reflect how her childhood would of been happy, which is contradictory to her current lifestyle and mental state which is shown in the film.
  • Although she is suffering from stress, we want her to be show strong will before her break down to show how important it is to the audience to try and not give up. (this will need to be reflected in the costume and make up.
As well as our main female character we also have a main male character 'Christian'. By adding a main male dance it is challenging the stereotype that dance is only for females.
